CAFCL: RS Berkane Warns Rivers United With Commanding Win By
Sampson Adedeji
Moroccan champions RS Berkane have sent a strong warning to Nigeria’s Rivers United after cruising to an emphatic victory over Zambia’s Power Dynamos in their CAF Champions League group opener, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Berkane were ruthless in front of their home supporters, taking the lead after just 13 minutes when defender Aaron Katebe deflected the ball into his own net.
The North Africans doubled their advantage three minutes later, with new summer signing Mounir Chouiar firing home after a neat assist from Haytam Manaout.
The Moroccans continued to dominate the contest and sealed the win just before the hour mark through Paul Bassène, whose 65th-minute finish put the result beyond doubt.
The 3–0 triumph places RS Berkane joint-top of Group A, level on points and goal difference with defending champions Pyramids FC, who defeated Rivers United by the same scoreline on Saturday in Cairo.
The victory now sets up a highly anticipated clash as Berkane travel to Uyo this week to face Rivers United, who will be desperate to bounce back and revive their qualification hopes.
The fixture promises to be intense, with Berkane’s dominant performance warning the Nigerian side of the challenge ahead.
