CAFCL: Sundowns Coach Warns Players Against Underestimating Remo Stars

As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare to face Remo Stars in the CAF Champions League, head coach Miguel Cardoso has cautioned his players against underestimating their Nigerian opponents, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference on Saturday evening, Cardoso emphasized the need for focus and respect towards Remo Stars, who have shown steady progress on the continental stage.

“I think the people who talk about Sundowns being pragmatic know the performances this team has produced recently,” Cardoso said. “Last season, we broke several records in South African football, and that speaks louder than words.”

However, the Portuguese tactician reminded his players that past success counts for nothing once the whistle blows.

“We have to be very strong to beat this Remo Stars team,” he warned. “If we come here thinking that being last season’s finalists will automatically help us win, then we are making a big mistake.”

Cardoso described the two-legged tie as a serious test, noting that both games will pose different challenges.

“Each player in Remo Stars has a dream, and we must respect that,” he continued. “We need to stay loyal to our identity, give our best, and remain focused on our objectives.

“If we truly want to compete in the Champions League, we must take these matches very seriously. Otherwise, the so-called underdogs can surprise us.”
