CAFCL: Top Referees Fail Key Fitness Test, CAF Make Late Changes

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been forced to make late adjustments to its referee appointments for upcoming CAF Champions League fixtures after several top referees failed critical fitness and technical assessments.

The tests were conducted during CAF’s training camp in Egypt, where a number of elite match officials were evaluated ahead of the competition phase.

Reports indicate that some high-profile referees could not meet the required standards, prompting CAF to immediately reshuffle its list of appointed officials.

As a result, CAF has begun restructuring match assignments to ensure only referees who successfully passed all examinations will handle key fixtures across the continent.

The governing body emphasised that maintaining high officiating standards remains essential to protecting the integrity of African football competitions.

More updates are expected as CAF finalises new appointments for the affected matches.
