CAFCL/CC: CAF Delays Disciplinary Decisions Across Key Continental Fixtures

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a temporary delay in taking disciplinary action following a series of incidents recorded in the ongoing CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup fixtures, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

CAF confirmed that several cases are currently under review, including crowd disturbances and matchday disruptions across multiple high-profile encounters.

Among the incidents being assessed is the fixture between Moroccan side OC Safi and Algerian giants USM Alger, where delays were recorded and fans reportedly gained access to the pitch.

The governing body is also reviewing events from the home-and-away ties involving Egyptian club Zamalek SC and USM Alger, which were marred by the use of flares and laser interference.

In addition, CAF is assessing crowd-related disturbances during the clash between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Morocco’s AS FAR.

Despite the gravity of the incidents, CAF has opted to postpone all disciplinary meetings and potential sanctions. 

The decision is aimed at ensuring that the remaining fixtures, particularly the decisive second leg between AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns, proceed without disruption.

The continental body is keen to avoid any rulings that could result in matches being played behind closed doors or otherwise impact the competitive integrity of the ties at this crucial stage.

CAF emphasized that all disciplinary outcomes and possible sanctions will be communicated after the completion of the second leg scheduled to take place in Rabat.
