CAFCL/CC: Nigeria Retains Four-Team Slot Despite Poor Outing

Nigeria will retain its four-team representation in the 2026/2027 CAF inter-club competitions despite an underwhelming campaign by its clubs in the current season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Under the allocation released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nigeria remains among the 12 highest-ranked member associations eligible to present two clubs each in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2026/27 season.

Nigeria’s solitary bright spot this term came from Rivers United, who reached the group stage of the Champions League before bowing out.

 Other Nigerian representatives failed to make significant impact in either competition, raising concerns about the country’s continental competitiveness.

Despite the modest performance, Nigeria’s historical coefficient ranking over the assessment period was sufficient to secure the maximum four slots. 

The countries confirmed to have four representatives each two in the Champions League and two in the Confederation Cup for the 2026/27 season are:Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, South Africa Tanzania, Tunisia, Angola, DR Congo, Sudan, Mali, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

The development provides a crucial opportunity for Nigerian clubs to redeem their continental image and accumulate valuable coefficient points in the coming campaign.

With the slot secured, attention will now shift to domestic competitions, where clubs will battle for qualification places ahead of the 2026/27 continental season.
