CAFCL Preliminary Round-Up: Remo Stars, Enyimba Suffer Defeats, As Young Africans, AS FAR Rabat secure Vital wins

The first legs of the preliminary round of the 2023/24 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League took place on Sunday and recorded several intriguing contests across the continent, writes BSNSports.com.ng.

Several sides have gained advantages to take into their second-leg clashes, while some face uphill tasks to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

In Botswana, Twaneng Galaxy secured a comfortable 2-0 home win over visitor Vipers SC, at the Lobatse Stadium.

A brace from Vincent Sesinyi, in the 10 and 75 minutes helped the host to take a two-goal lead heading into the second leg. 

While Young African continued on a winning note after they defeated Djibouti side AS Ali Sabieh 2-0, at the Azam Complex Stadium, Tanzania. 

Through goals from Stephane Aziz Ki and Kennedy Musonda, in the 38th and 60th minutes.

In Togo, ASKO Kara failed to make use of their home advantage as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Morocco outfit AS FAR Rabat, at the Stade de Kegum, Lome. 

Lamine Diakite scored the match-winner for the Moroccan club in the 18 minutes. 

While two Nigerian representatives, Enyimba International and Remo Stars both suffered defeats on the road. 

Remo Stars were not able to secure a favorable result in Ghana as Sowah netted the only goal of the game to help Medema SC to pick a 1-0 win, at the Cape Coast Stadium. 

Enyimba Int'l scored three away goals but was unable to pick a positive result as Libyan Al Ahly Benghazi scored late on in the game to secure a 4-3 win, heading into the second leg next weekend.

The return leg fixtures will be from 24 August, where the first round of preliminary stages will be concluded
