CAFWCL: Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies Arrive Benin City 

. AS Garde National Withdraws From WAFU Zone B Qualifier

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have arrived in Benin City, Nigeria for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers billed to kick-off on Friday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The team departed Accra in the early hours of Tuesday August 15 via African World Airlines to Lagos before continuing the journey to the host state, Benin City.

A contingent of thirty-five (35) made up of players, team officials and a GFA representative made the trip to Nigeria as the make a second attempt for the main champions league slot.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 18, 2023 with the winner picking the only CAF Women’s Champions League ticket available to WAFU Zone B.

Meanwhile Nigeria’s flagbearers in this year’s playoff, Delta Queens of Asaba, who are in Group A will face USFA Burkina Faso on August 18 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. 

Other teams in the group are Atletico D’Abidjan and Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic. Group B has three contenders following the withdrawal of one of the teams from the competition. 

The teams in the group are Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, AS Garde FC of Niger Republic and Friends of the World FC of Togo. 

Niger’s AS Garde National have officially withdrawn from qualifier.

BSNSports.com.ng sourced that the development is due to the closure of the country’s Air and land borders amid the current political unrest in the West African country.

The team’s withdrawal means Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Amis Du Monde from Togo are the only contenders in Group B.

The two teams will play against each other in only one group match on Friday, August 25 to determine who tops the Group ahead of the semi finals.
