CAS Opens Proceedings Over Appeal Over Former CAF Secretary General

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially opened proceedings in a case challenging the election of former Véron Mosengo-Omba as president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The appeal was filed by Rainier Patrice Mangenda, who is contesting the outcome of the FECOFA presidential election held on May 20.

According to the case details, FECOFA has been granted an additional 10 days to appoint its arbitrator as the legal process moves forward.

The matter has now become one of the most significant legal disputes involving Congolese football in recent years. 

Unlike previous cases involving clubs in the National Football League (Linafoot), this appeal centers on the legitimacy of the country's football federation elections and the eligibility of candidates.

CAS has registered the matter under case number CAS 2026/A/12613, with Mangenda Suku Swa, who was excluded from the presidential race, challenging FECOFA over the conduct and outcome of the election.

The outcome of the arbitration could have significant implications for the leadership of FECOFA and the future governance of football in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
