CHAN 2024: Egypt FA Calls For Emergency Meeting
By Sampson Adedeji
In response to the significant increase in the prize money for the 2024 Championship of African Nations, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) called for an emergency meeting late Wednesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Egypt was one of the 15 nations that initially withdrew from the competition, citing scheduling conflicts.
However, following a major announcement by Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe on Tuesday, the cash prize for the tournament's winner was raised to $3.5 million.
Algeria, another country that had pulled out, is now considering a change of stance and has convened an emergency meeting to reconsider its decision.
The EFA is reportedly contemplating the possibility of sending its U23 team to compete in the tournament.
If both Algeria and Egypt decide to reverse their decisions, the number of participating teams would rise to 21.
