CHAN 2024: Nigerians Expected Me To Blame Chelle For Home-based Eagles Failure- Ogunmodede
Sampson Adedeji
Assistant coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles B, Daniel Ogunmodede, has opened up on the public expectations surrounding him after the team’s early exit from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Eagles were eliminated after a crushing 4-0 defeat to Sudan in their second group match on Tuesday.
While many fans pointed fingers at head coach Eric Chelle for the poor showing, Ogunmodede who qualified the team for the tournament as head coach before taking up the assistant role during the finals refused to join in the criticism.
Speaking to Osasuo Obayiuwana in Tanzania on Friday, the Remo Stars boss said: “Many people expect me to speak negatively about my head coach (Eric Chelle) because I’m no longer in charge and we’re not doing well at CHAN 2024. But I will never do that. I am his assistant, and I accepted this role. I stand with him, and I sink with him. That is what loyalty and professionalism are about.”
