CHAN 2024: Ogunmodede, Ilechukwu Retain Home-Based Eagles Coaching Roles
Sampson Adedeji
Despite the appointment of Eric Sekou Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles, Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu retained their roles as head coaches of the home-based national team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) clarified this decision during the unveiling of Chelle as the new Super Eagles coach in Abuja.
There had been speculations that the France-born Chelle would assume control of the team ahead of the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
However, the NFF confirmed that Chelle will instead serve in an advisory capacity.
"The role of Coach Chelle with the Super Eagles B is to supervise and assist the two head coaches, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede, on technical matters when necessary. He is not taking over their positions," the NFF stated.
As a result, Ogunmodede and Ilechukwu will continue in their roles as head coaches of the Home-Based Eagles.
