CHAN 2024: Senegal Replaces Injured Goalkeeper Ahead Of Eagles Clash
Sampson Adedeji
Defending champions Senegal have called up a replacement for injured goalkeeper Idris Dialo ahead of their crucial clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Dialo, the team’s first-choice shot-stopper, suffered a serious injury during training last week, dealing a major blow to the squad’s preparations.
Despite already having two goalkeepers in camp, head coach Souleymane Dialo requested an additional replacement.
According to an update from the team camp on Tuesday morning, Cheikh Lo Ndiaye has been called up by the technical crew to replace the injured Dialo.
Senegal will kick off their CHAN campaign against Nigeria before taking on Sudan and Congo in their remaining group matches.
The Teranga Lions won the last edition of the tournament in Algeria, pulling off a historic upset by defeating the hosts in the final a performance that earned then-coach Pape Thiaw a promotion to the country’s senior national team setup.
The game against Nigeria will come up at Amman Stadium in Zanzibar by 6pm local time. Congo will face Sudan also at the same venue to determine who stays on top of the group after the first round of games.
