Home-based Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed optimism ahead of Monday’s friendly match against Zanzibar, describing it as an important test in preparation for the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Chelle and his team are using the game as part of their build-up to the tournament, which is fast approaching.
Speaking on Sunday, the coach highlighted the significance of the match and the progress made in camp.
“We began our preparations two weeks ago during my first camp in Ikenne (Ogun State). We worked extensively on physical, tactical, and technical aspects, and now we continue that preparation here in Zanzibar,” he said.
“I think there are good structures here in Zanzibar that allow us to focus on our tactical and technical work. Tomorrow’s game will be a great test against a good Zanzibar side as part of our CHAN preparations.
“I’ve watched one or two of their games — they play well, are fast, and can keep possession. They also have a strong striker who holds up play effectively. They bring intensity off the ball and try to finish quickly when in possession. For me, it will be a good and competitive game.”
The home-based Eagles are drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan. In their last CHAN outing in 2018, Nigeria reached the final but suffered a 4-0 defeat to hosts Morocco.
