By Niyi Busari
Nigeria’s home-based national team, the Super Eagles B, will play their group stage matches in Zanzibar during the 8th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to run from 2nd to 30th August 2025, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Thursday that Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania with a population of under two million, will host Group D, which features Nigeria, defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan.
Nigeria, silver medallists at the 2018 edition and bronze winners in 2014, secured their place at the tournament by defeating Ghana 3-1 on aggregate in the qualifiers held in December 2024.
The hosting of CHAN 2025 has been assigned to East African trio Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, serving as a test event ahead of their co-hosting duties for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to CAF's announcement: The opening match of the tournament will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, mainland Tanzania.
Matches in Group C will be staged in Kampala, Uganda, at the Mandela Stadium.
The final match is set for Saturday, 30th August, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi, Kenya.
Group B was recently reshuffled following a CAF Appeals Committee decision that led to the disqualification of Equatorial Guinea, paving the way for Congo’s reinstatement and subsequent placement in Group D alongside Nigeria.
