CNS Women Dominate As Men Stumble In 2025 CGC Volleyball League Opener

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) stunned reigning champion Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers in a five-set thriller in the men’s opening match of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League (1st phase) on Saturday night, September 20.

The clash saw NSCDC take the first two sets 25-22 and 31-29, showing early dominance and resilience. CNS Spikers, determined not to go down without a fight, roared back to take the third and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-20, forcing a decider.

In a tense final set, NSCDC held their composure to edge it 15-11, handing the champions a rare defeat and setting the tone for a fiercely competitive season at the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

In the women’s category, former champions CNS outclassed Benue Queens 3-0 25-12, 25-17, 25-14), showcasing their strength across all departments. 

Meanwhile, NSCDC women overpowered Anambra Queens 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 in another dominant display, underlining their intent to challenge for the title.

Day 1 results of the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League:

Men- NSCDC v CNS Spikers 3-2 (25-22, 31-29, 20-25, 20-25, 15-11)

Women- CNS vs Benue Queens 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-14)

Women- NSCDC v Anambra Queens 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-11).
