Cameroon, Ghana Others To Participate In 2022 National Sports Festival

For the first time in the history of the National Sports Festival countries are set to participate in the events, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

National Sports Festival was designed for States within Nigeria and for the discovery of new talents that will represent the country in future international sporting events.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Sunday Dare on Thursday while speaking on Radio Nigeria Network programme confirmed that neighbouring countries have been invited to participate in this year's event.

He mentioned Cameroon, Ghana, Benin Republic, Guinea Cote d'Ivoire and Sierra Leone as the countries that will take part in this year's event.

He further said they are expecting between 16000 to 18000 athletes.

"The National Sports Festival, Delta 2022 is our own Olympics. We want to make it an African show so we are adding some international flavours to it with the participation of teams from at least four West African countries. We are hoping to have about sixteen to eighteen thousand athletes in Delta State," the Minister said.

The National Sports Festival is scheduled to hold between November 28 - December 10, 2022, in Asaba, Delta State.
