Cameroon Coach Denies Resignation, Sports Ministry Issues Clarification

The ongoing drama surrounding Marc Brys’ tenure as Cameroon head coach took a surprising twist on Wednesday following reports of his resignation, which were quickly refuted by the Belgian tactician, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Rumours initially surfaced that Brys had quit his role over unpaid wages, sending shockwaves across the football community.

However, in a swift response, Brys issued a press release dismissing the resignation claims.

He reaffirmed his commitment to leading the Indomitable Lions and accused the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) of circulating or even fabricating the rumours.

To calm the situation, the Ministry of Sports, Brys’ official employer, released a statement signed by Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, confirming that the coach had not resigned.

The ministry noted that this assurance followed a direct phone conversation with Brys. Amid growing public uproar and with the presidential election less than three months away, political authorities intervened to de-escalate the situation.

Determined to avoid any embarrassment in the high-profile standoff with FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o, they instructed the Ministry of Sports to resolve the issue promptly.

Consequently, Brys’ outstanding salary arrears were reportedly settled, paving the way for him to continue in his role as Cameroon prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini and Cape Verde in early September.

For now, Brys remains at the helm until the next chapter in this ongoing saga unfolds.
