The crisis rocking Cameroonian football is far from over, as the government of Cameroon is preparing to respond to the decision of FECAFOOT president, Samuel Eto’o, to sack Indomitable Lions head coach Marc Brys, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Eto’o announced the dismissal of Brys and his technical crew shortly after his re-election as president of the Cameroon Football Federation, a move that has sparked fresh tension between the federation and the government.
Marc Brys, a Belgian tactician, was appointed by the Ministry of Sports following Cameroon’s disappointing outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, on the direct instruction of President Paul Biya.
According to Afrik-foot, the Presidency has urged the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, not to react immediately to the development.
“There were instructions from above, that is, from the Presidency of the Republic, asking the Minister of Sports not to react. Because by announcing the dismissal of Marc Brys and members of his staff, all of whom were chosen and appointed by the Ministry of Sports on the instructions of Head of State Paul Biya, Eto’o seems clearly to be defying the Presidency, and has even appointed a coach with no international experience,” a source from the Presidency stated.
Tensions between FECAFOOT and the government continue to rise, with a major showdown now looming over the control and future direction of Cameroon’s national team ahead of upcoming international competitions.
