Cameroon Sack Senior National Team Coach

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has sacked head coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck following the Indomitable Lionesses’ failure to qualify for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the federation confirmed the decision, saying: “Jean-Baptiste Bisseck is no longer the coach of Cameroon from the day of signature of this document.”

The dismissal comes in the wake of a disappointing qualifying campaign that ended Cameroon’s hopes of featuring in the 2026 WAFCON — marking the first time the Lionesses have missed consecutive editions of the continental tournament.

Once a dominant force in African women’s football, Cameroon had appeared in every WAFCON since 2006. However, they failed to qualify for both the 2024 and 2026 editions, a setback that also ends their chances of participating in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The team’s decline has become increasingly evident in recent years, despite FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o’s promises of reform and investment in women’s football. On-field results, however, have not reflected those ambitions.

Bisseck, appointed in 2022, faced mounting criticism over his team selections, tactical approach, and inability to inspire consistency or confidence within the squad. His departure had been widely anticipated after the Lionesses’ latest elimination, which many observers described as the culmination of years of stagnation.

The federation is expected to announce an interim coach in the coming days as it begins the search for a long-term successor tasked with rebuilding the once-feared national side.
