Can Flying Eagles Break The Jinx This Time Around?

Nigeria is one of the biggest names in world football, having stamped its authority not only on the African stage but also on the global scene.

The nation has celebrated triumphs across different categories, winning major honours at every level of the game.

The Golden Eaglets remain the most successful team in FIFA U-17 World Cup history with five titles, while the men’s Olympic football team has completed a full set of medals Gold in 1996, Silver in 2008, and Bronze in 2016.

However, despite these achievements, one trophy continues to elude the country: the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Flying Eagles have come close on two occasions, reaching the final in 1989 (losing to Portugal) and in 2005 (falling to Argentina).

Since then, Nigeria has continued to participate with high expectations but has yet to break the barrier. This year, under the guidance of head coach Aliyu Zubairu, hopes are once again high as the next edition of the tournament kicks off this weekend in Chile.

Fans and analysts alike are asking the big question: Can the Flying Eagles finally end the drought and lift the elusive U-20 World Cup?

Nigeria’s Fixtures:

29 September 2025 – Norway vs Nigeria

03 October 2025 – Nigeria vs Saudi Arabia

06 October 2025 – Nigeria vs Colombia

With a promising crop of young talents, strong preparation, and a renewed sense of belief, Nigerian fans are eager to see if this squad has what it takes to make history.
