Chaabani Replaces Renard, Becomes Tunisia Head Coach Until 2030

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has appointed Moin Chaabani as head coach of the senior national team on a four-year contract that will keep him in charge until 2030, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 45-year-old succeeds French coach Hervé Renard, who oversaw Tunisia's final two matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following the team's heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening group fixture.

In a statement, the FTF confirmed that its executive committee had approved the appointment of Chaabani and his coaching staff to lead the Carthage Eagles into a new era.

Renard was unable to reverse Tunisia's fortunes at the World Cup, with the North Africans suffering further defeats to Japan (4-0) and the Netherlands (3-1). The disappointing campaign marked the first time Tunisia had lost all three of their matches at a FIFA World Cup.

Chaabani arrives with an impressive club pedigree. He recently departed Moroccan side Renaissance de Berkane after guiding the club to its maiden domestic league title during the 2024-25 season, in addition to winning the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup.

The former Esperance coach also boasts two CAF Champions League titles, cementing his reputation as one of North Africa's most accomplished tacticians. However, the Tunisia role will be his first assignment in international football.

Tunisia have experienced significant managerial instability, appointing seven different coaches since 2024. Chaabani's immediate focus will be preparing the team for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which begins in September. Tunisia have been drawn in Group H alongside Uganda, Libya and Botswana.
