Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has explained the rationale behind the club’s decision to sign Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Onyeka joined the Sky Blues during the winter transfer window from Premier League side Brentford FC, in a move aimed at strengthening Coventry’s midfield options for the second half of the Championship campaign.
Speaking on the acquisition, Lampard highlighted the unique qualities Onyeka brings to the squad and how his profile adds tactical value to the team.
“He brings a different quality and probably a different profile to the midfield players we have,” Lampard said.
"As I say, the profile is slightly different and I think that helps us in terms of the options and the competition in the middle of the park for us.” The Coventry boss believes the Nigerian international’s presence will increase competition for places and provide greater flexibility in midfield selection as the club pushes towards its seasonal objectives in the Championship. Onyeka, who has Premier League experience with Brentford and international pedigree with Nigeria, is expected to play a key role in Coventry’s midfield rotation in the coming weeks.
