Chelle Calls Up 12 NPFL Stars for Unity Cup Clash Against Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad

Super Eagles head coach Eric Sékou Chelle has named 12 standout players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in his squad for the upcoming Unity Cup, a four-nation international friendly tournament set to take place in London.

As reported by The Nation, the tournament will feature Nigeria facing off against Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. The Unity Cup forms part of the Super Eagles’ preparation for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August.

Leading the NPFL contingent is Remo Stars forward Sikiru Alimi, whose scoring form has earned him another national team call-up. He is joined by CHAN Eagles captain Nduka Junior, veteran forward Ahmed Musa, and Enugu Rangers duo Isaac Saviour and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi. Plateau United’s Adamu Abubakar and Vincent Temitope also make the list, alongside Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel, who featured in Nigeria’s March World Cup qualifying matches.

Coach Chelle’s decision to field a largely home-based squad underlines his commitment to developing local talent and building a cohesive unit ahead of CHAN 2025. The Unity Cup will serve as a crucial platform for these players to test their skills on the international stage and stake a claim for permanent roles in future squads.

According to The Nation, the tournament will be used to assess the fitness, form, and tactical readiness of the NPFL stars as Nigeria gears up for a busy calendar of competitive fixtures in the coming months.
