Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has shed light on the decision to include two Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players in the national team, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel have been called up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Chelle, who was born in France, explained that their selection is linked to preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the need to integrate them into the squad.

“My job is to assess all Nigerian players worldwide because this is a World Cup qualifier. After that, we have CHAN and then AFCON, so we need to work together,” Chelle stated.

“I believe many players can contribute to the national team, but they must adapt to my playing style. That’s why I selected Daniel and Bankole from the NPFL. They are talented and have great potential for the future.

“But we need to start working with them now. We are building for the future, and as I mentioned in my first press conference, time is always a coach’s biggest challenge.”
