Chelle Hails Morocco’s Impact On African Football

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has showered praise on Morocco for what he described as an outstanding organisation of the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle noted that the North African nation set a new benchmark in hosting the continent’s flagship competition, pointing to the world-class infrastructure and seamless planning that reflected positively on Africa on the global stage.

The Nigerian tactician also emphasized that Morocco’s influence goes beyond hosting tournaments, insisting that the country played a key role in FIFA’s decision to increase Africa’s slots for the FIFA World Cup.

“Every African should thank Morocco, not just for the wonderful organisation of the AFCON or for the stadiums that honoured us as Africans in front of other nations,” Chelle said.

"More importantly, it was Morocco’s achievement that forced FIFA to increase the number of African teams qualifying for the World Cup after they reached the semi-finals.”

Morocco made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals, a feat widely regarded as a turning point for African football.

Chelle concluded that Morocco’s success and investments have helped reshape global perceptions of African football, while opening more opportunities for nations on the continent to compete at the highest level.
