Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly on the verge of leaving his role with Nigeria as he emerges as the leading candidate to take over at French Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sources close to the development indicate that Marseille president Pablo Longoria is strongly backing Chelle’s appointment, preferring his tactical profile and managerial approach over that of former Rennes manager Habib Beye, who was also under consideration.

An agreement between both parties is said to be at an advanced stage, with discussions centered around a four-month contract.

The deal is expected to include a performance-based clause that would trigger a one-year extension should Chelle guide the club to victory in the Coupe de France and secure a third-place finish in Ligue 1.

If finalized, the move would mark a significant shift for the Super Eagles, with Chelle poised to return to club management in one of Europe’s top leagues.
