Nigeria's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi made history by becoming the first African to throw over 22 meters in the men's shot put, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

This achievement marked his first time exceeding 22 meters, surpassing his previous personal best of 21.91 meters, which he set at the same event last year.

Enekwechi recorded an African record throw of 22.10 meters, finishing third at the Eugene Diamond League on Saturday.

Joe Kovacs won the event with a world-leading mark of 22.48 meters.

Roger Steen narrowly edged out Enekwechi for second place, achieving a personal best of 22.11 meters on his fifth attempt.

Enekwechi attempted to improve on this with his last throw but ended with a mark of 21.68 meters.
