Chukwueze, Boniface May Lose Super Eagles First Team Shirt To New Discoveries

By Admin

Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Boniface starters in recent Super Eagles matches may lose their positions as the Head Coach, Eric Chelle tries to experiment new options.

The duo, once considered automatic picks in the Super Eagles setup, now face stiff competition with coach Eric Chelle reportedly leaning towards in-form pair Nathan Tella and new boy Anthony Dennis to bolster Nigeria’s attacking options.

Boniface, who made a blistering start to life at Bayer Leverkusen, has seen his season hampered by injuries, limiting his game time and form. The powerful forward has struggled to regain his sharpness since returning to action, raising questions about his match fitness ahead of the squad announcement.

Similarly, Chukwueze’s switch to AC Milan has not gone according to plan. The tricky winger has found game time hard to come by in Serie A, with his lack of minutes on the pitch threatening his position in the national team.

On the other hand, Nathan Tella’s impressive performances at Bayer Leverkusen and Anthony Dennis’ fine run of form with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano have caught the eye of the technical team. Both players are now seen as viable options to inject fresh energy into the Super Eagles attack.

Coach Chelle is expected to trim his squad to 23 in the coming days, with insiders suggesting that current form will play a key role in the final selection.

Unless Boniface and Chukwueze experience a turnaround in their fortunes at club level, they could find themselves omitted from Nigeria’s squad – a decision that would underline the growing competition for places in the Super Eagles camp.

With the clock ticking, the coming days could be decisive for the duo as they battle to convince Chelle they still have a role to play in Nigeria’s plans.
