Cissé Set To Become Africa’s Second Highest-Paid Coach With Libya Appointment

Senegalese football legend Aliou Cissé has officially agreed to take charge of Libya’s national team, the Mediterranean Knights, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After days of negotiations, both parties finalized a two-year contract on Friday, with an option for an extension.

As part of his mandate, the former Senegal coach is tasked with guiding Libya to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Additionally, he is expected to lead the team to at least the semi-finals of the 2027 AFCON.

Cissé will make his debut in next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cameroon.

Libya currently sits second in Group D with seven points from four matches, trailing group leaders Cameroon by just one point.

With this deal, Cissé will become the second-highest-paid coach in African football.
