City FC Unveils New Kit, Eyes Top-Flight Football in 2025/26 Season

City Football Club of Abuja, one of the leading contenders in the Nigeria National League (NNL), unveiled its new team jersey on Saturday in a colourful ceremony held at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The unveiling event featured a lively novelty match against NAF FC, which ended in a commanding 4–0 victory for City FC, a result that underscored the team’s readiness for the upcoming 2025/2026 NNL season.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chidi Okonkwo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of City FC, described the unveiling as a symbol of unity and renewed ambition for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“We unveiled the jersey to show that this team belongs to the entire FCT,” Okonkwo said.

“It signifies our readiness for the new NNL season and marks a fresh chapter in our journey as one of the capital’s emerging football clubs.”

Okonkwo reaffirmed the club’s ambition to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after narrowly missing out in the last two campaigns.

“It’s long overdue for City FC to be in the Premier League. We missed promotion by just one point twice,” he stated. “This time, with our level of preparation and confidence in the squad, I believe nothing will stop us.”

Preparation and Vision

The chairman highlighted the club’s strong preseason program, which included participation in an international tournament in Tanzania, as evidence of their growing professionalism.

“If the logistics weren’t in place, I wouldn’t have the confidence to demand promotion,” Okonkwo said. “As a former player, I know how vital logistics are. We’ve done our part — now it’s up to the players and coaches to deliver.”

City FC will open their league campaign against Lobi Stars, a former NPFL side, and Okonkwo made his expectations clear. “We’re not going to share points with Lobi Stars. If we want promotion, we must make a statement. It’s not about names — it’s about performance,” he added.

Unity in the FCT Football Family

Okonkwo also commended the growing sense of unity among football stakeholders in the FCT, noting that long-standing rivalries among local clubs had previously hindered the region’s progress. “For the first time, all FCT teams have come together to end the infighting. You can see former EFCC FC and NAF FC coaches and players now working with City FC. Everyone has agreed to support one team to reach the top,” he said.

Coaches React

City FC head coach Yamoah Richard expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, describing the 4–0 victory as a reflection of their preparation and grassroots foundation.

“We started from the grassroots, and now we are here,” Richard said. “The win shows that the players are ready. We just need to fine-tune a few areas before the league begins.”

NAF FC head coach Suleiman Ibrahim attributed his team’s defeat to fatigue after a congested playing schedule.

“The boys were tired after playing multiple matches this week. We’ll return to the drawing board and come back stronger,” he noted.

NAF FC captain Kassa Jeffrey also praised City FC’s performance and promised improvement from his side in upcoming fixtures.

A New Identity for a New Season

The event concluded with the official presentation of City FC’s home and away jerseys, as well as the club’s league kits for players and officials. Fans, supporters, and key stakeholders turned out in large numbers to celebrate the club’s renewed identity and aspirations for promotion to Nigeria’s top flight.
