Commonwealth Games 2026: Ochonogor Laments Disqualification From High Jump Event
Sampson Adedeji
Nigerian track and field athlete Prestina Ochonogor has expressed her disappointment after being unable to compete in the women's high jump event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The athlete took to social media to voice her frustration, questioning how she was issued multiple competition bib numbers but was still prevented from participating.
"Please tell me, is it possible to have six bib numbers in one competition and still you can't compete?
Or is it possible to get a bib number without registration? My heart is broken and bleeding. So much sacrifice, yet being treated like nothing," Ochonogor wrote.
Her emotional reaction has sparked concern among Nigerian athletics followers, with many calling for an explanation from the relevant officials over the circumstances that led to her disqualification.
The incident is another setback for the Nigerian contingent at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games, as attention now shifts to whether the Athletics Federation of Nigeria or Team Nigeria officials will address the athlete's claims.
