Commonwealth Games 2026: Ruth Nyong Wins Silver in Women's 48kg Weightlifting

Nigeria's Ruth Nyong delivered an outstanding performance to claim the silver medal in the women's 48kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nyong impressed with a personal best lift of 75kg in the snatch before adding 93kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a total of 168kg, securing a place on the podium for Team Nigeria.

The gold medal was won by India's Mirabai Chanu, who produced a dominant display by setting two new Commonwealth Games records on her way to a total lift of 190kg.

Nyong's silver medal adds to Nigeria's growing medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and highlights another strong showing by the country's weightlifting team.
