In one of the most lopsided results in African women’s football history, the Comoros national team demolished Sudan 17-0 in the first leg of their preliminary round tie for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Coelacanths produced a ruthless attacking masterclass, overwhelming their opponents from start to finish and effectively sealing progression to the next round with a commanding lead. 

The result marks the biggest victory ever recorded by the Comoros women’s national team.

With the return leg scheduled for Monday, June 8, Sudan face an almost impossible task to overturn the deficit. 

Comoros are now heavy favourites to advance and will be expected to complete the formalities on home soil or neutral venue.

The winner of the two-legged tie will take on Nigeria’s formidable Super Falcons in the second round of the qualification campaign. Comoros’ stunning performance is likely to serve as a stark warning to the Super Falcons, who will be monitoring developments closely.
