Congo Brazzaville Returns To International Stage After Nine-Year Absence

After nearly a decade away from international basketball, Republic of the Congo has officially returned to the global stage following the resolution of its long-standing dispute with FIBA Africa, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The country’s absence dates back to the cancellation of the Afrobasket 2017, which led to sanctions and a hefty financial penalty imposed on the federation.

 Congo has now paid the $800,000 fine, clearing the path for its reintegration into international competitions.

The development marks a significant milestone for basketball in the Central African nation, with both club sides and the national team popularly known as the Red Devils now eligible to participate in continental and global events.

Officials and stakeholders within Congolese basketball have welcomed the breakthrough, expressing optimism that the return will usher in a new era of growth, competitiveness, and visibility for the sport in the country.

With the ban lifted, attention now shifts to rebuilding structures, developing talent, and positioning Congo as a competitive force once again on the African basketball scene.
