Congress Expansion A Day-dream - State FA Chairman
By Niyi Busari
A State Football Association Chairman has said that the Ministry of Sports proposal to increase the number of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Congress will not see the light of the day, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
He described it as government interference and day-dream that will never come to fruition.
The Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh had on Monday gave one-year ultimatum to the country's football ruling body to increase the number of congress men to allow other stakeholders be part of the football decision making body.
"For any change in the present Congress set to come to reality, the Congress is supreme and should be the one to dictate and correct that and not Federal Government. The State FA Chairman who pleaded anonymity said.
"In fact, for giving the federation one year ultimatum is government interference which FIFA frowns at.
"Do you think the State FAs who have 37 out of 44 votes would dig their own grave by allowing congress expansion? The reason they are called the federation and not Association means that they're independent and should take decision independently. Any interference from government would be rejected.
"Do you think that Gusau-led NFF will allow their second tenure plot slip their hands? The process will be frustrated by the State FAs and the NFF. Go and write it down, nothing will happen," he concluded.
In the present set up, statutorily, five bodies namely: The State Football Association, Nigeria Referee Association, Nigeria Coaches Association, Players Union, the League Body formed the NFF.
Out of 44 votes from the five bodies to elect the Federation President, only the State FAs have 37 votes while the other four have seven votes.
