Copper Queens Become 1st Team To Exit 2023 FIFAWWC After Drinking 10 Goals
By Gbenga Gboyega
The Copper Queens will rue their shambolic performance at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia & New Zealand, with the Zambian Women's National team the earliest to exit the competition after conceding ten goals in two games, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Zambia was the least-ranked team from Africa (9th) while being 77th in the World, setting lower expectations in Australia.
Although Group C respectively features World's 6th-best and 11th-best teams in Spain and Japan, the fans were left aghast by the woeful defeats suffered by the Zambians.
With 10 goals in two games, three goals conceded before half-time in both, while the rest after the hour mark, the Zambians left nothing much to savor after an impressive 2022 where they won the COSAFA Women's Cup and clinched 3rd place in the AWCON.
2023 has been the opposite as Zambia could only win four games in their nine International friendlies played between February and July, losing four others and drawing once.
With the 5-0 loss to Spain in the early hours of Wednesday, 26th July 2023, the Zambians go into the 3rd group B stage game against Costa Rica on Monday 31st of July with nothing to play for.
