Countdown To World Athletics Relays: Nigeria To Feature In Four Events

BSNSports.com.ng can report that Nigeria will take part in four of the six events slated for the World Athletics Relays which holds in Guangzhou China between May 10 and 11.

The Nigerian contingent will feature in 4 x 100m relay men, 4 x 100m relay women, 4 x 100m mixed relay and 4 x 400m mixed relay.

According to the Secretary of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Israel Inwang Mfon, in fielding the four events, the Federation had to place a premium on areas of comparative advantage and medal prospects.

 It will be noted that at the 2024 edition of the World Athletics Relays in Nassau Bahamas, all the non-Olympics events were removed.

Before then, there were events like 4 x 800m relay, 4 x 1500m relay, 4 x 200m relay, distance medley relay, shuttle hurdles relay and 2 x 2 x 400m relay.

These non-Olympics events were removed in 2024, and only the Olympics events, namely the 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay,y, were retained.

The mixed versions of these events will bring the number of events at the 2025 edition in Guangzhou, China, to six.

Nassau 2024 featured five events, but the introduction of a mixed 4 x 100m relays at Guangzhou 2025 will bring the number to six.
