Court Adjourns Case Involving Anthony Joshua’s Driver Over Fatal Crash

The court case involving the driver of Nigerian-born former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been adjourned until March 13 for further hearing, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, Joshua’s long-time driver, appeared for the second time on Wednesday before a magistrates’ court in Sagamu, Ogun State, where the fatal accident occurred on December 29 near the Makun area.

Kayode is facing multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, causing bodily harm through reckless driving, negligent destruction of property, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

As during his initial appearance last month at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court, the 46-year-old did not enter a plea. Proceedings were adjourned after prosecutors requested additional time to compile and present evidence.

Kayode did not address the court during the hearing. He had previously been granted bail and released from custody while recovering at home from injuries sustained in the crash. Joshua was also reported to have suffered injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, British tabloid The Sun reported that Kayode, a father of three who first appeared in court on January 20, had previously lost his job with a British businessman following a separate driving incident.

According to the publication, the earlier accident allegedly occurred in October 2024 when Kayode reportedly became distracted while driving his employer’s black Infiniti QX56 during a work trip. The vehicle was said to have veered into a roadside gutter, resulting in visible damage and two punctured tyres. No injuries were recorded in that incident.

The case is expected to resume on March 13.
