Crises Rocks Cameroon Football As Ministry Of Sports Cancels FECAFOOT Election

A fresh wave of turmoil has hit Cameroonian football following a decisive intervention from the country’s Ministry of Sports, plunging the FECAFOOT electoral process into deep uncertainty, BSNSports.com.ng reports

On November 14, 2025, a strongly worded document issued by Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Cameroon’s Minister of Sports, sent shockwaves across the nation’s football community.

 The minister formally wrote to the Minister of Territorial Administration requesting the cancellation and prohibition of all electoral assemblies within football structures including the highly anticipated FECAFOOT election scheduled for November 29 in Mbankomo. 

The move is being viewed as an extraordinary and controversial step with potentially far-reaching implications.

For months, tensions had been escalating around the electoral process overseen by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). 

The build-up to the elections had been marred by internal disputes, protests from stakeholders, and claims of manipulation and illegality.

 Several football actors accused the federation of using “fictitious clubs” to influence voting, excluding legitimate delegates, and imposing rules that violated existing statutes.

Multiple candidates reportedly expressed frustration, alleging a lack of transparency and fairness, while many football clubs and administrative bodies warned of chaos and instability if the elections proceeded without reforms. Matters worsened as public demonstrations and threats to public order began to surface.

Minister Mouelle Kombi stated that as far back as August 21, he had officially requested a correction and restructuring of the ongoing process, insisting that the federation must comply with the 2021 statutes that were drafted in agreement with CAF and FIFA. 

According to him, the continuous disregard of regulatory guidelines and repeated allegations of electoral misconduct left the government with no choice but to intervene.

The sudden suspension now leaves the future of FECAFOOT’s leadership in limbo, raising questions about the mandate of the current executives and potential reactions from CAF and FIFA, both of which traditionally oppose government interference in football governance.

As the crisis deepens, Cameroonians and African football observers are watching closely to see whether reconciliation or escalation will follow while the fate of the November 29 election hangs precariously in the balance.
