Crisis Rocks DR Congo Federation Election As Players Reject Ex-CAF Secretary General Candidacy

Tensions have escalated within Congolese football as fresh controversy surrounds the upcoming leadership election of the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA), with players openly protesting against the candidacy of former Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba, BSÑSports.com.ñg reports.

The crisis deepened after a group of Congolese footballers unveiled a protest banner rejecting Mosengo-Omba’s bid for the FECOFA presidency. 

The players, whose identities were not immediately disclosed, expressed strong opposition, insisting on preserving what they described as the 'sovereignty' of their football administration.

According to sources close to the situation, the protest reflects growing unease among stakeholders over the potential influence of external forces in the federation’s electoral process.

 The players’ action signals a rare but significant intervention from active footballers in administrative matters, underlining the depth of concern within the domestic game.

Mosengo-Omba, who previously served in a high-ranking administrative role at CAF, recently confirmed his candidacy for the FECOFA top job, a move that has since generated mixed reactions across the Congolese football community.

While some view his experience at continental level as an asset capable of reforming the federation, critics argue that his leadership could undermine local control and autonomy.
