Cycling Federation of Nigeria Releases Updated Medal Standings For African Championships

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria has released the latest medal standings from the ongoing 2026 African Track Cycling Championships holding in Abuja, with South Africa maintaining its lead while host nation Nigeria remains in second position, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A total of 103 medals have been awarded so far at the championship, consisting of 36 gold, 35 silver, and 32 bronze medals.

The competition, which began on May 11, concludes on Sunday May 17 at the Velodrome Package A of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The tournament marks the 12th edition of the Confederation of African Cycling Track Cycling Championships.

South Africa currently tops the medal table with 19 gold, 10 silver, and nine bronze medals, accumulating 38 points to continue its dominance at the continental event.

Nigeria occupies second place with seven gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals, giving the host nation a total of 23 points.

Egypt sits third on the standings with seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals, while Algeria is fourth with three gold, 12 silver, and five bronze medals.

Benin completes the top five positions with two silver and one bronze medal.

Earlier in the competition, Nigeria delivered an impressive performance at the 3rd CAC Para Cycling Championships held from May 9 to May 11 at the same venue in Abuja.

The hosts finished top of the para cycling medal table with nine gold, five silver, and two bronze medals to secure 16 points. Egypt followed in second place with five gold, six silver, and three bronze medals.

Kenya claimed third position in the para cycling standings with five gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, while South Africa placed fourth with three gold and one bronze medal. Algeria completed the top five with two silver medals.

Eight countries participated in the championship, including Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Benin Republic, and host nation Nigeria.
