Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D'Tigers, kicked off their FIBA World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers campaign on a winning note, defeating Tunisia 84-81 in a hard-fought contest on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The victory was powered by strong performances from Nigeria’s NBA and overseas-based stars. 

Chimezie Metu and Ike Iroegbu led the scoring with 17 points each, while Wes Iwundu chipped in with 14 points.

 Uche Iroegbu added 13 points as the Nigerians held off a resilient Tunisian side to secure a crucial opening win in the three-game qualifying window.

The match was closely contested throughout, with both teams trading leads in what proved to be a high-intensity battle. 

Nigeria’s ability to execute in key moments and rely on their experienced roster ultimately made the difference in the narrow four-point triumph.

The win provides D'Tigers with an important boost as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. 

Nigeria will now turn their attention to the remaining games in the qualifying window, aiming to build momentum in the tough African group.
