D’Tigers Slip To 53rd In Latest FIBA Rankings

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have fallen to 53rd in the world following the latest FIBA rankings, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The drop comes after a busy summer of international basketball, highlighted by continental tournaments worldwide.

Despite reaching the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket in Angola last month, the 2015 African champions slid 11 places from 42nd in March to 53rd in September.

On the continental table, D’Tigers also lost ground, falling from sixth to eighth in Africa. Their points tally now stands at 248.7, down from 297.8 earlier this year.

Nigeria were among the biggest fallers alongside Morocco, Tunisia, the Virgin Islands, and Kosovo, while Mali, South Africa, Turkey, Cyprus, and Jamaica recorded significant climbs.

Attention will now turn to the FIBA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers, which kick off in November. Nigeria aim to secure a spot at the 2027 edition in Qatar, having missed the 2023 tournament.

Their last appearance on the global stage came in 2019 under former coach Alex Nwora.
