Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi was in action as RB Leipzig eliminated Union Berlin from the DFB Cup on Wednesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Union Berlin have never won the German Cup or any major honour in their history, but the Iron Ones had enjoyed a near-perfect run to the final four of the cup competition.

The Nigerian international who scored his 13th goal of the season during Union Berlin’s 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, was given a closed marking by host team.

The visitor open scoring in the 25th minute through Sheraldo Becker before Andre Silva restore parity in the 61st for RB Leipzig.

The their advantage in the 92nd minute through Emil Forsberg with a fine finish to dent Union Berlin’s hope of qualifying to the next round

As disappointing a loss as it is for Union Berlin and Awoniyi, it takes nothing away from an excellent campaign that sees the Berliners sit sixth in the Bundesliga standings and potentially still in the race for a top-four finish.
