DR Congo Debunks $1 Million Bonus Claims Ahead of Nigeria Clash

The Football Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FECOFA) has strongly dismissed circulating reports alleging that the country promised to reward each player with $1 million if they defeat Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Play-offs, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Rumours emerged across social media on Saturday claiming that the Congolese government had set aside a massive financial bonus to motivate the Leopards ahead of the decisive encounter against the Super Eagles.

In an official statement released on Saturday morning, FECOFA described the report as false, misleading, and aimed at causing unnecessary distraction within the squad.

“There has never been any discussion or decision promising $1 million to each player. These claims are fabricated and should be disregarded,” the federation clarified.

FECOFA further emphasized that the team remains fully focused on the sporting objective and is not driven by financial incentives.

 “Our players are motivated by national pride and the desire to qualify for the World Cup not by fake news.”

DR Congo will face Nigeria in what promises to be a highly competitive final qualifying match, as both nations fight for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The federation urged supporters and the media to verify information before spreading unconfirmed reports, stressing the need for unity and concentration ahead of the crucial fixture.
