Dankwambo Pledges To Strengthen Future of Nigerian Chess Through Funding and Development

The newly elected President of the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has pledged to usher in a new era for the sport in Nigeria, focusing on sustainable growth through funding, capacity building, and strategic partnerships, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In his inaugural remarks following his election, Senator Dankwambo outlined his vision under the theme:

“Strengthening the Future of Chess in Nigeria through Funding, Capacity Building, and Strategic Partnerships aimed at Grassroots and Institutional Development.”

He emphasized that chess in Nigeria possesses immense untapped potential, not only as a competitive sport but also as a tool for education, youth engagement, and intellectual development.

 “Our priority is to build a solid foundation for the future of chess in Nigeria,” Dankwambo said.

“We will strengthen structures at both the grassroots and institutional levels through sustainable funding, targeted training programmes, and meaningful partnerships with corporate and educational institutions.”

The NCF president noted that his administration would work closely with schools, universities, and local chess clubs to promote talent discovery and development. He also underscored the importance of private-sector involvement and government support in transforming chess into a mainstream sporting and educational activity across the country. “We are not just building players, we are building thinkers,” he added. “With the right support, Nigerian chess can produce grandmasters who will compete and win on the world stage.”

Senator Dankwambo’s election has been widely welcomed within Nigeria’s chess community, with many describing his leadership as an opportunity to reposition the federation for progress and international recognition.
