De Condé: We Couldn't Stop Onuachu From Southampton Move

Dimitri De Condé, Genk's Director of Football says it would never have been fair if the club had stopped Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu from making his Premier League dream come true, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

KRC Genk reached an agreement with Southampton regarding the deal for Paul Onuachu on transfer deadline day.

The Belgian club received 18 million euros plus 3 million euros in bonuses. That was a good bargain for the club, for a striker who turns 29 in May and who was only under contract for 1.5 years.

De Condé spoke to Voetbalnieuws about the departure of the Nigerian attacker to the Premier League.

"He expressed that dream again on Monday during a long conversation. We could no longer stop him from making his dream come true. I am pleased that Paul is also grateful to the club for that. His departure is of course a great loss for our current selection. We shouldn't be silly about that."

Onuachu had a dream to play in England and also spoke a few words about Genk.

"I want to thank everyone who has helped me grow here. The different coaches, the technical staff and of course the supporters. I wish the club the best for the future. It is my greatest wish that they can win the title. Genk will always be my stay-at-home wherever I go."

Onuachu had been in magnificent form for Genk this season, with the 6ft 7 forward netting 17 goals in 22 appearances, making him the top scorer in the Belgian top-flight.
