Deliver A Successful CHAN Or Forfeit AFCON 2027 – CAF Warns Host Nations

With the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) fast approaching, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a stern warning to the tournament’s host countries, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania — the joint hosts for CHAN 2024 — have been tasked with organizing a seamless and successful tournament. Following the conclusion of the qualifiers and the announcement of the final draw, preparations are now underway among the qualified teams.
Speaking on Wednesday, CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba emphasized the importance of delivering a high-quality competition. He cautioned that failure to do so could jeopardize the region’s chances of hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which has already been awarded to the same three countries.
“If this region fails to deliver CHAN, it will be very difficult to trust it with hosting AFCON 2027,” Mosengo-Omba warned.
CAF’s message underscores the high expectations placed on the East African trio as they prepare for two major continental football events in quick succession.
