By Niyi Busari
Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu on Tuesday said Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau's interest is to see Nigeria return back to when the national teams won many trophies at international competitions, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
After winning 13 trophies in four years under ex-NFF President, Aminu Maigairi, Nigeria have struggled to win medals in the last eight years under immediate past NFF President, Amaju Pinnick led board.
Shuaibu revealed Gusau interest at the NFF Secretariat after he held meeting with federation and the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN).
"What we want is that Nigeria is the giant, Nigeria is number one and we must be giant in all ramifications including winning trophies and that is the interest of the president." He told BSN Sports.
Reacting on the outcome of the meeting, he said, "I'm part of the Players Union and the Task Force of PFAN. May be God is trying to do something. Anywhere we (Players Union) meet we talk and that is why we are members of the Union.
He added, "See, there is no fight really. In a family just like the mouth, the teeth and the tongue would always one or two things. But what is key is that we have a president that is carrying everybody along to make sure that the football family is united for the good of the country. For us, you see one thing about us is that we blame leaders but we the followers also have a role. We the followers of the president thought that we also need to take up our roles as followers to support his vision, collective vision to make Nigerian football household name as far as football is concerned. Nigeria is the leader as far as African nations is concerned."
The Nigeria Football Federation invited members of the Task Force of PFAN to a meeting at the Secretariat to see possibility of settling their case out of court.
