Dikko Backs Super Eagles For AFCON Triumph, Tips Chelle for Best Coach Award

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has expressed strong confidence in the Super Eagles’ chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while also backing head coach Éric Chelle to emerge as the tournament’s Best Coach.

Dikko made these remarks on Sunday afternoon during an interaction with BSN Sports in Rabat, Morocco.

According to him, the Super Eagles’ impressive performances so far reflect both the quality of the squad and the tactical influence of their coach.

“The statistics clearly show what our individual players are achieving at their respective clubs,” Dikko said. “We are one of only two teams that won all three matches in the group stage, but that is now behind us as we focus on the Round of 16 against Mozambique.”

He highlighted the team’s attacking strength and balance, noting that goals have come from all areas of the pitch.

“The most important thing is that this is a goal-scoring team,” he added. “Our defenders, midfielders and forwards have all contributed goals, which shows the depth and versatility of the squad. I hope we continue to improve as we progress in the tournament.”

Dikko also praised head coach Éric Chelle’s impact, describing him as the standout coach of the competition so far.

“Based on what we have seen in the first round, Éric Chelle is the Coach of the Tournament,” he said. “I hope he finishes the competition as the overall Best Coach and that the Super Eagles emerge as champions.”

Nigeria will face Mozambique in their Round of 16 encounter on Monday at the Fez Stadium.
